Portland Bill
Portland Bill is one of the most dramatic rock fishing venues in England. The rocky ledges at the tip of the Isle of Portland offer access to deep, fast-flowing water and a superb variety of species.
Local Tips
Extreme care required — the rocks can be very slippery and the tidal race is dangerous. Always fish with a partner. Wrasse respond well to crab baits fished tight to the kelp.
Chesil Beach
One of England's most famous beach fishing venues, Chesil Beach is an 18-mile shingle bank offering superb sport throughout the year. The steep shelving beach allows long-distance casting into deep water.
Local Tips
Fish after dark for best results. Use peeler crab or black lug for cod in winter. The eastern end near Portland is particularly productive.
Whitby Harbour
Whitby is a legendary sea fishing destination with a rich maritime heritage. The harbour walls and piers offer excellent sport, particularly for cod during the winter months when large fish move inshore.
Local Tips
The west pier is best for cod in winter. Use large lug or squid baits. Night fishing from the harbour walls can produce excellent sport.
